ThermoEnergy China Marketing Program Expands to Wasterwater Filtration for PV Solar Panel Production Plants

Company's CEO Sees China's Multi-Billion Pollution Program as a Technology Opportunity

Worcester, MA., December 21, 2011 -- ThermoEnergy Corp. (OTCBB: TMEN), a diversified technologies company engaged in the development and sales of leading edge wastewater recovery and power generation technologies in global markets, has announced it has launched a marketing plan to provide technology to China that would recover high value and often toxic chemicals and metals from wastewater produced during the manufacture of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels. China is the world’s largest manufacturer and exporter of PV solar panels.  “We are executing a marketing program to accelerate our market share of China’s nearly $500 billion pollution control and abatement market.” said Cary Bullock, ThermoEnergy’s Chairman and CEO.  “ThermoEnergy’s technology has been very well received by several major industry players in China and we are currently in discussions with these companies.  China’s PV manufacturing industry is continuing to expand and has the potential to be one of ThermoEnergy’s largest markets over the next five years.”

China’s PV Solar system manufacturers face an increasingly tight set of environmental regulations that create outstanding opportunities for ThermoEnergy wastewater recovery solutions. A major portion of China’s rivers have been deemed unsafe for human contact and China is investing approximately $475 billion in pollution prevention and treatment under a five-year plan that runs to the year 2015.

The wastewater produced by PV manufacturing contains many hazardous chemicals, including heavy metals, halogenated compounds, acids and organic contaminants. Currently, most manufacturers cope with the large amounts of contaminated wastewater by treatment and disposal.  ThermoEnergy’s solution offers a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system that is based on vacuum evaporation and flash distillation, and offers the potential to recover and reuse or recycle valuable process chemistry. The system has proven itself in comparable applications in the United States, so the extension to China, which dominates solar manufacturing, is a logical one for the high tech company.
